Getting started

What is a UK LTD, and why do I need one to open PayPal, Stripe or Wise?
A UK limited company (LTD) is a separate legal entity registered with Companies House. It has its own company number, registered address and legal identity, distinct from you as a person. PayPal, Stripe and Wise all decide who they can onboard based on the country the business is registered in, not the country the owner lives in. The United Kingdom is a supported country for all three, so a UK LTD gives your business a legal home that those platforms already accept. If your own country is unsupported or heavily restricted, that single fact is usually the thing standing between you and a working merchant account.
Can I form a UK company if I don't live in the UK?
Yes. UK company law does not require directors or shareholders to be UK residents or UK citizens. You can own and run a UK LTD entirely from abroad. What the company does need is a UK registered office address. That is the official address on the public record where Companies House and HMRC send correspondence. That address is included in every one of our packages, so being outside the UK is not a barrier to incorporation.
Do I need a UK bank account to use PayPal, Wise or Stripe business accounts?
Not a traditional high-street bank account, no. Wise Business gives you real UK account details, a sort code and account number in your company's name, and those details are accepted by both Stripe and PayPal as a payout destination. That is why most of our clients start with Wise: it solves the payout problem without needing a UK branch visit. If you later want a conventional UK bank account, our Business bank account guidance add-on covers which providers realistically accept non-resident directors and how to prepare the application.
How long does the whole process take, start to finish?
Company formation is usually approved by Companies House within 24 to 48 hours of us filing, assuming your ID checks are clear. Payment accounts follow the company: Wise typically takes 2 to 5 business days, PayPal 2 to 7, and Stripe 3 to 7 depending on how quickly they review your website and how much extra documentation they ask for. A realistic end-to-end expectation for the full suite is 7 to 14 business days. Delays almost always come from platform-side verification requests, not from the incorporation itself.
What documents do I need to provide?
For incorporation: a clear colour scan or photo of your passport (or national ID), a proof of address issued in the last three months (utility bill, bank statement or government letter), and basic details for each director and shareholder: full legal name, date of birth, nationality and home address. For payment accounts we also need a working website or a description of what you sell, your expected monthly volume, and sometimes sample invoices or supplier agreements. We tell you exactly what is needed at each step; you never have to guess.
Is this legal and compliant with UK company law?
Yes. Everything we do is a standard, publicly documented process: we file your incorporation with Companies House using the information you provide, and we help you complete each payment platform's own application honestly. We do not create nominee structures to hide ownership, we do not misstate residency, and we do not submit false trading information. Your name appears on the public register as director and person with significant control, exactly as UK law requires. If a service ever promises to hide who really owns the company, walk away from it.
What ongoing responsibilities do I have after the company is formed?
Three main ones. First, a confirmation statement filed with Companies House once a year, confirming your company details are still accurate. Second, annual accounts filed with Companies House. Third, a Corporation Tax return to HMRC, plus VAT registration if you cross the threshold or choose to register voluntarily. We send you reminders ahead of each deadline in your first year, and we can file the confirmation statement for you as an add-on. Accounts and tax returns should be handled by an accountant, and we are happy to introduce you to one.
Can I upgrade later and add a payment platform I didn't buy initially?
Yes, at any time. Add-ons are priced the same whether you buy them on day one or a year later, and because we already hold your verified company details, adding a second or third platform is usually faster than the first. Email us or use the pricing page's 'I already have a UK LTD' view to add a platform to a company we formed.
What happens if my Stripe or PayPal application is rejected?
We work the rejection with you. In most cases the platform tells us what triggered it: a missing refund policy, an unclear product description, or a mismatch between the website and the stated business activity. We fix it and reapply. Sometimes the underlying business model is one that platform genuinely will not support, and in that case we say so plainly and help you move to an alternative processor rather than keep reapplying. What we cannot do is guarantee approval: that decision belongs to the platform's own risk team, and no provider who tells you otherwise is being straight with you.
Do you offer refunds if the company formation fails?
Yes. If Companies House rejects your incorporation and we cannot get it approved with a corrected filing, we refund our service fee in full. The Companies House filing fee itself is only charged if the filing goes through. Payment-account setup fees are refundable before we submit an application, and covered by our re-application policy afterwards. The full detail is in our Refund Policy.

Pricing

Can I add PayPal, Wise or Stripe later?
Yes. Buy the company now and add any platform later at the same à la carte price. Because we already hold your verified details, a later add-on is typically quicker to prepare than the original application.
What if my Stripe application gets rejected?
We diagnose the reason, correct it, and reapply once at no extra cost. If Stripe will not support your business model at all, we tell you that directly and recommend an alternative processor instead of charging you for repeated attempts.
Do I need a UK bank account to buy these packages?
No. You pay us by card or PayPal from wherever you are. And you do not need a UK high-street bank account to operate afterwards either. Wise Business provides UK account details that Stripe and PayPal accept for payouts.
Are Companies House fees included in the price?
No, and deliberately so. The £100 Companies House incorporation fee is a government charge, so it is itemised as its own line at checkout rather than buried in our headline price. You pay it with your order in one go, we pass it straight to Companies House at cost, and nothing is invoiced to you afterwards. Any provider folding it into a single number is simply hiding it from you.
Are these prices one-off or recurring?
The three bundles are one-off fees. Two items renew annually if you want them: the registered office address at £49 a year, and confirmation statement filing at £59 a year plus the £50 Companies House fee. Nothing renews without you approving it first.
What is the UK VPS and phone number for?
A UK-hosted server for your website or business tools, and a UK number that customers and suppliers can actually call, which is worth having on your invoices and contact page. We provision both and hand them over: the number is transferred into your name, and the VPS is billed monthly by its provider, so the running cost is yours once the setup is done. What neither is for is appearing to be somewhere you are not. The payment platforms verify where a business is genuinely run, and a mismatch between what your account says and where you actually are is one of the quickest ways to have it closed.
What payment methods do you accept?
Card (Visa, Mastercard and American Express) through Stripe, PayPal, or a Wise transfer. You choose at the last step of the order form and pay on that provider's own checkout, so your card details never touch our site. Prices are shown in GBP; your bank converts at its own rate if you hold another currency. The Companies House fee is included in the total you pay, shown as its own line, and passed through at cost.

UK LTD Formation questions

Do I have to visit the UK at any point?
No. The entire process is online. Identity checks are done with document scans and, where required, a short liveness check on your phone.
Can I be the only director and shareholder?
Yes. A UK LTD can have a single person as both sole director and sole shareholder. That is the most common structure among our clients.
Will my home address be public?
Your residential address must be given to Companies House, but it is not published if you use a service address, which is included from our Company + 1 Payment Account package upward. Your registered office address is always public; that is the London address we provide.
Do I need to pay UK tax on everything I earn?
Your UK company pays UK Corporation Tax on its profits, and you may also have obligations in your country of residence. Double-tax treaties often affect how this works. We are not tax advisers. Speak to an accountant, and we can introduce you to one who works with non-resident directors.
What if I want to close the company later?
A dormant or unwanted company can be struck off the register through a straightforward Companies House process. Tell us and we will walk you through it. But do not simply stop filing, as that leads to penalties and a disqualification risk for the director.

PayPal Business Setup questions

Can I keep my existing personal PayPal account?
Yes, but keep the two apart. Personal and business activity mixed in one account is a common trigger for limitations. Your business sales should run through the company account.
What if PayPal places a hold on my funds?
Holds and reserves are normal for new merchants, especially in e-commerce. They usually release as you build delivery history. If a hold happens we help you supply the tracking numbers and supplier documentation PayPal is asking for.
Which countries can I receive payments from?
A UK PayPal Business account can receive payments from buyers in every market PayPal serves: over 200 countries and around 25 currencies.
Does PayPal need a UK phone number?
A UK number helps with verification and support, but is not strictly required. We will tell you when it is worth getting one and how.

Wise Business Setup questions

Is Wise a bank?
Wise is an authorised electronic money institution, not a bank. In the UK your money is safeguarded rather than covered by FSCS deposit protection. For receiving, holding and converting business income it works like a bank account; it is not a place to park long-term savings.
Can Stripe pay out to Wise?
Yes. Your Wise UK sort code and account number are a valid Stripe UK payout destination, and this is the setup most of our clients run.
What does it cost to run?
Wise charges a one-off fee to open the business account (around £45 at the time of writing, paid to Wise directly) and per-transaction fees for conversions. There is no monthly fee. Our fee is for preparing and managing the application.
Can I get a business debit card?
Yes, in most cases, though card availability depends on the director's country of residence. We check this for you before you buy so you are not paying for something you cannot use.

Stripe Account Setup questions

Why do Stripe applications get rejected?
In our experience the top causes are: a website that does not clearly show what is being sold, missing refund or terms pages, a business category on Stripe's restricted list, a mismatch between the declared business and what the site actually offers, and company details that do not match the public register. The first four are fixable before you apply, which is exactly what our pre-application review is for.
Do I need a live website before applying?
Effectively yes. Stripe reviews a working site. If yours is not ready we will tell you what the minimum viable version needs: product pages, pricing, refund policy, terms, privacy policy and a real contact method.
What are Stripe's fees?
For a UK account, roughly 1.5% + 20p for UK cards and 2.5% + 20p for international cards at the time of writing, with a currency conversion fee on top where it applies. Stripe sets and changes these, so always check their pricing page for current numbers.
Can I use Stripe with Shopify?
Yes. Shopify Payments is built on Stripe, and standalone Stripe works as an alternative gateway. Which one is right depends on your country and store setup; we talk it through with you.
What if Stripe closes my account later?
It happens, usually after a spike in disputes or a change in what you sell. Keep dispute rates low, keep your site accurate, and tell Stripe before you change business model. If it does happen we help you understand the reason and set up an alternative processor.
